Reiss Nelson leaves Arsenal after contract termination

Arsenal has announced the departure of winger Reiss Nelson following a mutual agreement to terminate his contract with immediate effect. The 26-year-old leaves the club as a free agent, ending an 18-year association that began in the club’s Hale End academy.

Nelson made 90 first-team appearances for the Gunners, scoring eight goals and providing nine assists. His tenure included winning the FA Cup in 2020 and participating in two FA Community Shield victories. Despite his potential, Nelson struggled to secure a regular starting role under manager Mikel Arteta, particularly following loan spells at Hoffenheim, Feyenoord, Fulham, and Brentford.

While Arsenal previously engaged in discussions with West Ham United regarding a potential transfer fee, the decision to terminate the contract allows the club to remove his wages from the books. Nelson is expected to assess his options, with interest reported from various clubs in England and abroad.
