Rejowiec communal cemetery remains largely unused after 18 years
A communal cemetery in Rejowiec, Poland, remains largely unused eighteen years after its establishment. Despite being built in 2008 to address a perceived shortage of burial space in the local parish cemetery, the site contains only one grave belonging to an unidentified person.
Mayor Tadeusz Górski admitted that the construction of the cemetery may have been unnecessary. He noted that the municipality incurred significant costs, including high annual fees for converting agricultural land for ten years. The lack of use is attributed to a declining population in Rejowiec and a local preference for renovating existing family plots at the parish cemetery rather than utilizing the new facility.
