REK Bitola 1 Cogeneration Plant Gets $2.4 M World Bank Grant

AD ESM and the World Bank signed a grant agreement worth $2.4 million to finance preparatory activities for the REK Bitola 1 cogeneration plant in North Macedonia, with Prime Minister Christian Mikovski in attendance.

The funding will be used to select consultants, carry out a feasibility study and prepare an international tender for the plant, which is part of a larger investment exceeding €200 million near the existing REK Bitola complex. The cogeneration facility will produce electricity and heat simultaneously, cut harmful emissions and help meet EU climate targets.

AD ESM Director Lazо Uzunchev, World Bank manager Carol Mezevan and Energy Minister Sanja Bozhinovska highlighted the project’s contribution to decarbonisation, energy security and affordable heating for residents of Bitola and the surrounding Pelagonia region.
