Rekha Gupta calls for focus on boys' behavior to ensure women's safety
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has called for a shift in how society addresses women's safety, arguing that instead of imposing restrictions on girls, there must be a greater focus on the upbringing and behavior of boys. Speaking at Maitreyi College, Gupta emphasized that boys must be taught respect and consent, noting that 'NO' must be understood clearly.
Gupta urged women to prioritize their own personal growth and empowerment, stating that they often focus on family needs at the expense of themselves. She also called for increased accountability from the police, judiciary, and civic administration to ensure public spaces are safe.
These remarks follow recent concerns regarding sexual offenses in the Delhi-NCR region. The Supreme Court recently took suo motu cognizance of these issues, noting that inadequate lighting, surveillance, and patrolling in public areas like parks and buses have created high-risk zones.
