Relationship betrayal through infidelity and financial dishonesty
Betrayal in committed relationships can manifest as both romantic infidelity and financial infidelity. Financial infidelity involves intentionally withholding money-related information from a partner, such as secret credit cards, hidden debt, or undisclosed spending. According to Bankrate, 40 percent of adults in live-in relationships have committed some form of financial infidelity, with 45 percent of those in serious relationships viewing it as being as severe as, or worse than, physical cheating.
In cases of romantic infidelity, research by Kathleen Nickerson et al. indicates that relationship preservation is often predicted by the level of love for the partner and the formal status of the relationship, such as marriage or engagement. To facilitate repair, sincere apologies and consistent actions from the unfaithful partner are essential to restoring trust and reducing insecurity.
