Relatives of former President AMLO hold large celebration amid 2027 election signaling

Juan Dionisio Cruz Guerrero, the political nephew of former President Andrés Manuel López Obrador and director of the Tecnológico de Ciudad Madero, recently held a large birthday celebration at the Club de Regatas Corona in Tampico. The event, attended by hundreds of guests, included the Mayor of Ciudad Madero, Erasmo González, as an honored guest.

Cruz Guerrero is married to Úrsula Patricia Salazar Mojica, a local Morena deputy and niece of the former president. The celebration drew attention due to its scale, contrasting with the ‘republican austerity’ promoted by the former administration. The couple has previously been noted for luxury celebrations and international travel.

The event also served as a platform for political signaling ahead of the 2027 elections. Both Cruz Guerrero and Salazar Mojica are reportedly seeking elective office; Salazar Mojica is specifically eyeing the Morena candidacy for the Mayoralty of Tampico, a position currently held by Mónica Villarreal.
