Reliability of home STI testing kits discussed
Sexual health remains a topic frequently surrounded by misinformation and uncertainty in social circles, media, and education. Addressing these myths is essential for better understanding of intimacy and sexuality.
As an alternative to in-person clinical visits, home testing kits for sexually transmitted infections (STIs) have gained popularity on social media. These kits generally fall into two categories: rapid tests that provide results in approximately 15 minutes, and mail-in kits that require sending samples to a laboratory for analysis, typically yielding results within 24 to 48 hours of receipt.
Norbert Brockmeyer, President of the German STI Society, states that these home tests are as reliable as those conducted in official testing centers. He notes that some studies suggest patients may even achieve better results when performing the tests themselves compared to medical staff, provided that the instructions are followed with exact precision.
