Relics of Saint Anne to arrive in Romania for the first time

The relics of Saint Anne, the mother of the Virgin Mary and grandmother of Jesus Christ, will be brought to Romania for the first time. The sacred reliquary, which has been kept for centuries at the Cutlumuș Monastery on Mount Athos, is scheduled to arrive in Bucharest between September 5 and September 10.

A delegation of five monks from Mount Athos is expected to arrive at Henri Coandă International Airport on September 5 around 15:00. The relics will then be transported to the Saint George the New Church (Sfântul Gheorghe-Nou) in central Bucharest, where they will be placed for veneration.

The event has received the blessing of Patriarch Daniel and the approval of the Holy Community of Mount Athos. The visit coincides with significant religious dates, including the feast of the Virgin Mary on September 8 and the feast of Saint Anne on September 9. During the five-day period, daily services including the Holy Liturgy, Vespers, and Akathist will be performed.
