Religious brotherhoods in Cartagena hold ceremonies and elections
Two religious brotherhoods in Cartagena, Spain, have formalized a spiritual bond. The Cofradía del Cristo de la Divina Misericordia, representing the Virgen de los Desamparados, and the Hermandad de San Fulgencio, representing the Virgen de los Dolores y la Soledad, completed a formal twinning ceremony at the San Fulgencio church in Pozo Estrecho.
The ceremony included a mass and the signing of an official act of brotherhood, marked by the exchange of gifts and medals. During the event, the history of the Pozo Estrecho image was recounted, noting it was donated by a local family in the early 20th century and preserved in a cemetery pit during the Civil War.
In a separate development, the brotherhood of Santa Marta held elections to appoint its new leader. Jesús Núñez Aguilar was elected as the new Hermano Mayor, succeeding Casati. Núñez received 216 votes out of 221 cast and is set to serve until 2029, pending ecclesiastical ratification.
