Religious celebrations held for patron saints in Palestrina and Salerno

Religious communities in Italy are holding celebrations for their respective patron saints. In Palestrina, the Diocese of Tivoli and Palestrina gathered in Piazza Regina Margherita to honor Saint Agapito. During the vigil Mass, Bishop Mauro delivered a homily emphasizing that martyrdom represents a testimony of faith and daily consistency. The celebration included a communal Mass and musical accompaniment from the diocesan choir.

In Salerno, the Diocese of Salerno-Campagna-Acerno commenced a month of festivities dedicated to Saint Matthew. The event featured the traditional raising of the Saint Matthew banner, which bears the inscription ‘Salerno is mine: I defend it’. This tradition commemorates a 1544 event where a storm allegedly protected the city from pirate attacks. The ceremony was attended by religious leaders, local civil authorities, and a large number of faithful residents.
