Religious commemorations and pilgrimages held in Italy

The Unitalsi Roman-Lazio section is organizing its final major pilgrimage of the 2026 season to Lourdes, scheduled from October 22 to 29. Led by President Massimiliano Pezzotti, the event expects approximately 1,600 pilgrims. Notable attendees include Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle and Bishops Vincenzo Viva and Orazio Francesco Piazza. The group will also include 100 young volunteers, a trend noted by the association as a positive sign of new generation participation.

In Italy, events are also being held from October 15 to 17 to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the death of Cardinal Joseph Bernardin. The commemorations will take place across Tonadico, Fiera di Primiero, Rovereto, and Trento. Cardinal Blase Joseph Cupich, the Archbishop of Chicago, will participate in the ceremonies, including a solemn Mass in Tonadico, the birthplace of Bernardin’s parents. The program includes meetings with authorities and cultural ceremonies to honor the spiritual legacy of the former Chicago archbishop.
