Religious commemorations for August 25 feature Louis IX and Joseph Calasanz

August 25 marks the feast days of several religious figures, including King Louis IX of France and Saint Joseph Calasanz.

Louis IX, who reigned from 1214 to 1270, is recognized for his pursuit of holiness while serving as a monarch. Known for his commitment to justice, peace, and generosity toward the poor, he emphasized avoiding mortal sin and remaining humble during times of prosperity.

Joseph Calasanz (1558–1648), a Spanish priest known as the “Patriarch of Children,” founded the Pious Schools (Escuelas Pías). His work focused on the education and recovery of street children, a mission carried on by the Congregation of the Pious Schools.

Additionally, the day commemorates Saint Nemesius and Saint Lucilla, a father and daughter who were martyred in Rome in the year 260.
