Religious commemorations for September 4

September 4 marks several religious observances in the Orthodox and Greek-Catholic calendars. Key figures commemorated include Saint Martyr Vavila, Bishop of Antioch, the Prophet Moses, and Saint Martyr Petronius.

Saint Vavila, who was elected Bishop of Antioch in 237, is remembered for his defiance against a pagan emperor. After preventing the emperor from entering the church due to his idolatry, Vavila was eventually imprisoned and executed. The Prophet Moses is also commemorated for receiving the Ten Commandments on Mount Sinai and is traditionally regarded as the author of the Book of Genesis.
