Religious commemorations honor Asia Minor Martyrs in Mytilene and Drama

Religious communities in Mytilene and Drama are organizing commemorations to honor the Asia Minor Martyrs and Saint Chrysostom of Smyrna.

In Mytilene, the parish of the Holy Temple of Agiou Theraponta will hold services on September 13, 2026. The event honors the clergy and laity who died during the 1922 Asia Minor Catastrophe. The ceremony includes a procession, Divine Liturgy, and artoklasia. The community highlights the specific connection to Saint Chrysostom of Smyrna, who previously served as an Archdeacon of the Metropolis of Mytilene.

In Drama, the 'Chrysostomia IX' festival will take place on September 12 and 13. Organized by the Holy Metropolis of Drama and the Holy Temple of Agiou Chrysostomou, the event includes athletic competitions for people with disabilities, traditional dances, and a memorial service for the victims of the Asia Minor Catastrophe. The program features a festive atmosphere with traditional music and a procession of the Holy Icon of Saint Chrysostom.
