Religious community activities and upcoming events in Belgium and the Netherlands
Catholic communities in Belgium and the Netherlands are preparing for various religious and communal activities. In Belgium, a working group is redesigning the 'confirmation walk' (vormseltocht), a catechetical program for candidates and parents. The updated concept, which aims to reduce the need for manual labor by using recorded videos of faith witnesses, is expected to be released in autumn 2027.
In another Belgian activity, a group of confirmation candidates visited the Grimbergen Abbey on October 10, 2026. Led by Prior Johan Goossens, the group toured the basilica, sacristies, and the living quarters of the monks. The abbey, founded in 1128, will celebrate its 900th anniversary in 2028.
In the Netherlands, a community has announced its biennial 'Community Weekend' scheduled for May 15 to May 17, 2027. The event will take place at the Emmaus monastery in Helvoirt and focuses on social connection and spiritual deepening.
