Religious coronation ceremonies in Almagro and Seville
In Seville, the Amparo brotherhood has presented the coronation crowns for the Virgin of Amparo and the Christ Child. The crowns, made of gilded silver from the early 18th century, will be used in a canonical coronation ceremony scheduled for November 8. Goldsmith Joaquín Ossorio worked on the enrichment and restoration of the pieces, which feature gold rings donated by the brotherhood and are set with sapphires, rubies, pearls, and diamonds. The project was designed by Javier Sánchez de los Reyes, with Ana Amparo Cerrejón overseeing the restoration of the jewelry.
Historically, the city of Almagro held a significant religious event in 1929 for the coronation of the Virgin of the Snows, its patron saint. The ceremony was attended by high-ranking figures, including Apostolic Nuncio Federico Tedeschini, representing Pope Pius XI, and Infante Jaime de Borbón, representing King Alfonso XIII. The festivities included solemn masses, religious processions, and various civic activities such as concerts and fireworks.
