Religious festivals in Italy: Tirano concert and Quartucciu vendor controversy

The Basilica della Madonna di Tirano will host the traditional Concerto dell’Apparizione on Friday, October 2, at 21:00. The event marks the conclusion of celebrations for the 522nd anniversary of the Apparition of the Madonna di Tirano and the 80th anniversary of her proclamation as Patroness of Valtellina. The musical program, titled “Musiche dal ’500 al ’900,” will feature the Imperio Brass quintet, Samanta Paganini-Nussio on Alpine horn, and Marco Brunelli on the organ.

In a separate local matter, the Madonna della Difesa festivities in Quartucciu concluded without the traditional street stalls, sparking controversy among residents and vendors. The local committee reported that while two food and beverage operators were accredited, no vendors were active by Saturday evening. Vendors cited strict operating hours and high costs as the primary reasons for their absence, with some noting that fees in Quartucciu are significantly higher than in neighboring towns.
