Religious heritage restoration efforts continue in Eure, France
Renovation efforts are underway at the Saint-Gervais Saint-Protais church in Étrépagny, Eure. The project, which has a total estimated cost of 2.7 million euros, is expected to continue until the end of 2027. Following a 2021 restoration of the bell tower and recent work on the roof, the current phase involves the restoration of north and south stained-glass windows. These windows, which are set in cement rather than lead, have been sent to the Barthe-Bordereau workshop in Saint-Léger-des-Bois for specialized restoration.
In the nearby commune of Vexin-sur-Epte, local authorities face the challenge of maintaining 14 different religious buildings across 14 villages. Mayor Michel Jouyet noted the difficulty of allocating public funds among numerous historical sites, some of which are classified heritage sites like Notre-Dame de Tourny. To justify the use of public money, the municipality is exploring ways to develop new cultural uses for these buildings alongside their religious functions, ensuring the preservation of the region's architectural heritage.
