Religious leader indicted for 19 crimes in Palmas

A 38-year-old religious leader in Palmas, Tocantins, has been indicted by the Civil Police for 19 different crimes committed against members of his institution. The investigations, which concluded seven police inquiries, suggest the suspect used his spiritual authority to exert psychological control, make threats, and commit various forms of violence.

According to investigators, the leader used personal secrets shared during private counseling sessions to embarrass or expose followers in front of others. Victims reported experiencing psychological pressure, physical aggression, and threats involving spiritual curses, illness, or death, particularly when attempting to leave the institution. Specific allegations include instances of discrimination based on race, sexual orientation, and gender identity.

Furthermore, the investigation revealed that the leader allegedly provided and encouraged the use of marijuana and cocaine among followers, claiming the substances aided spiritual connection. Reports also included cases of physical assault and instances where victims were prevented from seeking medical attention for themselves or their family members due to spiritual threats.
