Religious leaders call for integrity and coexistence in Malawi and Zambia
In Malawi, Sheikh Abbas Muslim Vinjenje, Secretary of the Majlis Ulama Council, has urged Muslim graduates from the Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS) to reject corruption. Speaking at a Muslim Students Association ceremony, Vinjenje emphasized that corruption is prohibited in Islam and warned that unethical practices by educated professionals undermine national development. He called on graduates to uphold honesty and accountability in both public and private sectors.
In Zambia, Mohammed Zaheer has addressed religious tensions in Makeni, responding to allegations regarding the visibility of Muslim institutions. Zaheer argued that the presence of mosques, schools, and businesses should not be viewed as a sinister religious agenda or a threat to national identity. He called for impartial investigations into any specific legal or land-related grievances rather than making assumptions based on faith, advocating for coexistence and judging institutions by their contribution to society.
