Religious leaders in Chad and Niger call for peace and unity

Religious leaders in Chad and Niger held collective prayers on August 28, 2026, focused on social cohesion, peace, and national unity.

In N’Djaména, Chad, Cheikh Yahya Ibrahim Khalil, vice-president of the National Council of Islamic Affairs, delivered a sermon at the Markhaz mosque. He urged followers to avoid harmful behaviors and disobedience, citing historical religious lessons to emphasize the importance of individual actions on the community. He also addressed the necessity of adhering to orthodox religious principles regarding divine unity.

In Dosso, Niger, Sultan Amadou Sunna Djermakoy organized a collective prayer at the Great Mosque of Dosso. The event included administrative and traditional authorities. Regional Governor Colonel-Major Bana Alhassane called for public cooperation with security forces to combat terrorism. During the ceremony, the Sultan condemned armed banditry and expressed gratitude to the President for the development of a refinery and petrochemical complex in the region, a project valued at over 1,000 billion CFA francs.
