Religious leaders in Malaysia and Indonesia urge interfaith harmony

Religious leaders in Malaysia and Indonesia are emphasizing the importance of social harmony and interfaith collaboration to ensure national stability.

In Malaysia, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Zulkifli Hasan stated that peaceful coexistence is essential for the country's future amidst a diverse religious and social landscape. During a dialogue session regarding Malaysian Islamic identity, he advocated for the “Islam Rahmatan Lil Alamin” approach, which promotes inclusivity, respect, and social harmony. He urged for the responsible handling of sensitive religious issues to prevent social division.

In Indonesia, Minister of Religious Affairs Nasaruddin Umar called for strengthened collaboration between the government and religious elements to maintain national harmony. Following a national dialogue with Christian religious leaders, academics, and church officials in Jakarta, Umar expressed hope that Indonesia's high level of religious tolerance since independence would continue and serve as an international model.
