Orthodox Church commemorates Prophet Jonah and Saint Kodratos

The Orthodox Church commemorates several religious figures on September 21, most notably the Prophet Jonah and Saint Kodratos, the Apostle of Magnesia.

Jonah is a central figure of the Old Testament, known for his attempt to flee God's command to preach in Nineveh. After being cast into the sea during a storm and surviving three days inside a great sea creature, he eventually fulfilled his mission, leading the people of Nineveh to repentance. In Christian tradition, his experience is viewed as a precursor to the three-day burial and resurrection of Christ.
