Religious organizations appeal to Brazil's Supreme Court on environmental risks

More than 30 religious organizations have sent an open letter to the ministers of the Brazilian Supreme Federal Court (STF) expressing concern over upcoming judicial decisions. The letter, described as an appeal to conscience and the Constitution, addresses legal actions regarding the relaxation of environmental licensing and the 'Marco Temporal' framework.

Signatories include diverse groups such as the Evangelical Alliance, the Laudato Si’ Movement, the Israelite Confederation of Brazil (CONIB), the National Conference of Bishops of Brazil (CNBB), and the Yas Collective. The organizations argue that weakening environmental protection instruments increases risks for society and that judicial decisions must prevent immediate interests from compromising fundamental rights and environmental heritage.
