Religious pilgrimages held in Juazeiro do Norte and Olinda
Religious traditions and pilgrimages were recently observed in Brazil, with significant events held in Juazeiro do Norte and Olinda.
In Juazeiro do Norte, the Romaria de Nossa Senhora das Dores took place from August 29 to September 15. The event featured various processions, including the Procession of Means of Transport and the Procession of Wagons. A cultural highlight was the street play ‘Padre Cícero, O Padim de Joazeiro’, which presented historical records and teachings related to popular devotion. During the period, local authorities provided extensive health services, recording 2,843 medical and nursing consultations across several religious sites, with the Basilica of Nossa Senhora das Dores seeing the highest volume of patients.
In Olinda, the XIII Romaria da Primavera brought approximately 2,200 pilgrims together on September 6. Organized by the Schoenstatt Pilgrim Mother Campaign of the Archdiocese of Olinda and Recife, the walk began at the Nossa Senhora Aparecida Chapel and concluded at the Tabor Sanctuary of New Evangelization. This year's event held special significance as it coincided with the centenary of the Sisters of Mary of Schoenstatt, who participated in the traditional coronation of the Auxiliary Pilgrim.
