Religious sites reopen in Libreville and Hazebrouck

The Notre-Dame de l’Assomption Sainte-Marie Cathedral in Libreville has officially reopened following a fifteen-month restoration period. The closure began in May 2025 after structural weaknesses were discovered, which led to a partial collapse of the roof and framework. The renovation project addressed the timber framework, roofing, technical installations, and furniture.

In Hazebrouck, the Saint-Éloi church has also reopened its doors to the public on August 15. The facility had been closed indefinitely following multiple acts of vandalism targeting statues, holy water fonts, and the altar. Local authorities were notified, and a police complaint was filed regarding the damages.

Both reopenings coincide with the feast of the Assumption, allowing local parishioners to resume regular religious services.
