Religious traditions and disputes in Spain

In Marchena, the Hermandad de San Isidro Labrador has opened registration for vehicles and animal-drawn carts to participate in the sixth edition of the San Isidro de Marchena pilgrimage, scheduled for September 20, 2026. Participants must register online by September 11 or attend in-person sessions at the San Miguel Arcángel parish between September 8 and 10. Each vehicle requires a designated adult responsible for the unit and must display a non-transferable identification number.

In a separate religious matter, the Bishop of Barbastro, Mons. Ángel Pérez Pueyo, has issued a statement requesting the permanent return of the image of Nuestra Señora de Los Ángeles to its original hermitage. This request comes ahead of the 47th Pilgrimage of the Virgins of Ribagorza and Sobrarbe at the Torreciudad sanctuary on September 5. The dispute regarding the image's location remains under the jurisdiction of the Holy See and the plenipotentiary commissioner appointed by Pope Francis.
