Rema explains decision to keep wealth private
Nigerian Afrobeats singer Divine Ikubor, known professionally as Rema, has shared his reasons for avoiding the public flaunting of his wealth and achievements. In an interview with Jam FM, the 26-year-old artist explained that he is conscious of his influence on young people who look up to him.
Rema stated that he does not want his lifestyle to make fans or young observers feel inadequate or pressured to rush their own paths to success. He noted that seeing peers achieve rapid success can lead to unhealthy comparisons, and he aims to avoid contributing to that pressure.
The singer also touched upon the broader issue of societal and parental expectations, noting that many children face pressure to pursue specific careers to satisfy their parents. To maintain a simpler image, Rema mentioned a preference for streetwear over excessive designer labels.
