Carolina Pérez Cuásquer: Remains of missing student found in Quito

The remains of Carolina Pérez Cuásquer, a 19-year-old student from the Escuela Politécnica Nacional (EPN), have been located in Puembo, Quito, more than six years after her disappearance.

Carolina originally disappeared on February 9, 2020, while studying in the Quito area. Her family confirmed the identification of her remains following a period of intense searching and public advocacy. While the discovery provides a conclusion to her disappearance, the family stated they will continue to seek justice and a full investigation into the circumstances of her death.

The case has drawn attention to the safety of students migrating from provinces like Carchi to larger cities for higher education. Her family noted that the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020 had previously hindered search efforts.
