reMarkable Paper Pro receives successful Android 13 port

Developer Chalid Raqami has successfully ported Android 13 to the reMarkable Paper Pro, an e-ink writing tablet designed to run a proprietary, distraction-free Linux-based operating system. The modification allows the device to run Android alongside the original OS, enabling access to the Google Play Store and third-party applications such as Kindle and Microsoft OneNote.

The port faces significant hardware limitations, specifically the device’s 2GB of RAM and quad-core Cortex-A53 processor. While Raqami developed a low-latency stylus mode to improve handwriting performance in apps like OneNote, the e-paper display results in a laggy user experience for standard Android tasks. Despite these constraints, core hardware functions including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, audio, and front-light control remain operational.

Raqami has implemented a deep sleep function to maintain battery efficiency and a quick-switch feature to return to the original reMarkable OS. The Android 13 solution has not yet been publicly released, as the developer intends to conduct limited user testing to address stability issues first.
