REMAX co-founder Gail Liniger dies at 81

Gail Liniger, co-founder and former CEO of REMAX, has died at the age of 81. Alongside her husband, Dave Liniger, she founded the company in Denver in 1973, evolving it from a single office into a global real estate network.

Liniger is credited with helping popularize an agent-centric brokerage model characterized by a maximum-commission structure combined with brokerage support services. This approach was designed to attract high-producing agents by offering greater independence and higher take-home pay in exchange for brand and technology support. This model significantly influenced the residential real estate industry and helped REMAX expand to more than 145,000 agents across 120 countries and territories.

Liniger served as CEO in 1991, guiding the company through a period of international expansion. She retired from the REMAX Holdings board of directors in 2023 after stepping back from daily operations in 2018. Her husband described her as the ‘steady force’ behind the company’s success.
