Rembang officials urge farmers to adopt climate literacy

Rembang Vice Regent Mochamad Hanies Cholil Barro’ has called on local farmers to develop climate literacy to combat the growing impacts of climate change. During a thematic Climate Field School (SLI) event organized by the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), Hanies emphasized that traditional farming techniques are no longer sufficient on their own.

He noted that climate change is causing tangible disruptions, including delayed rainy seasons, prolonged droughts, and an increased risk of natural disasters such as floods and landslides. While farmers have historically relied on local wisdom like Pranata Mangsa and various agricultural management systems, Hanies argued that understanding climate information is now essential for maintaining food security and navigating unpredictable weather patterns.
