Rembang Regency addresses school infrastructure and teacher shortages

The Rembang Regency Government is addressing several challenges within its primary education sector, focusing on infrastructure revitalization and staffing shortages.

Authorities have proposed 84 elementary schools, including both public and private institutions, to receive revitalization assistance from the central government in 2026. The selection is based on the Basic Education Data (Dapodik). Currently, eight schools have entered the implementation phase with a total budget of approximately Rp7.658 billion, with some projects reaching 50 percent completion. An additional 25 schools are currently undergoing administrative preparation.

Simultaneously, the region is facing a significant shortage of specialized educators. As of July 1, 2026, there is a need for 86 Physical Education, Sports, and Health (PJOK) teachers in elementary schools. This shortage has forced classroom teachers to take on additional responsibilities by teaching PJOK subjects, increasing their workload. Local officials emphasized that specialized teachers are essential to ensure students receive proper physical and motor skill development alongside academic instruction.
