Remco Evenepoel faces racist threats against family after Tour de France second place

Belgian cyclist Remco Evenepoel finished second overall in the 2024 Tour de France, winning two stages including the summit finish on Plateau de Solaison and a time trial. Despite the sporting success, his family has been targeted with racist insults and direct threats on social media.

His father Patrick Evenepoel told Belgian outlet HLN that the abuse is directed mainly at Evenepoel’s wife Oumi Rayane, who has Moroccan roots, and that the family continues to receive threatening messages. Evenepoel expressed pride in his wife, parents and Red Bull team, saying he is "super satisfied" and grateful for the preparation that led to his performance.

The incidents highlight ongoing online harassment faced by high‑profile athletes and their families, even as they achieve career milestones.
