Remco Evenepoel responds to French claims ahead of World Championships

Belgian cyclist Remco Evenepoel has addressed recent comments from French competitors ahead of the upcoming World Championships. Responding to suggestions that the Belgian team should lead the race, Evenepoel noted that French riders often make such claims only to initiate attacks themselves. He stated, “In this scenario it is France that must make the race hard, not us.”

Evenepoel expressed confidence in his physical condition following intensive training and recent trials in Quebec and Montreal. While he prefers winning solo, he noted that his sprinting abilities have improved over the last two years, providing an additional tactical option. He also acknowledged the talent of teammate Wout van Aert, noting that while the course profile favors his specific climbing qualities, Van Aert remains a significant contender.
