Remco Evenepoel wins Grand Prix de Québec
Belgian cyclist Remco Evenepoel, riding for Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe, won the 15th edition of the Grand Prix Cycliste de Québec on Friday. The 206-kilometer race featured 19 circuits and significant climbing, including the Côte de la Montagne.
Evenepoel secured the victory by attacking with approximately 28 to 30 kilometers remaining, establishing a small lead group. He ultimately won a two-man sprint against Italy’s Giulio Ciccone of Lidl-Trek. Denmark’s Anthon Charmig finished third, trailing the leaders by 15 seconds.
This victory serves as a key indicator of form heading into the World Road Race Championships in Montreal, scheduled for late September. Evenepoel, considered a top favorite following the absence of Tadej Pogačar, used the race to demonstrate his strength after a period of high-altitude training. Other notable riders in the race included Tom Pidcock, who finished fourth, and Quinn Simmons, who finished fifth. The event also saw Juan Ayuso suffer a crash in the chasing group.
