Remedica drug recalls cause disruption in Cyprus healthcare system

The voluntary recall of pharmaceutical products by Remedica has caused significant disruption within the Cyprus General Healthcare System (GeSY). The situation affects doctors, pharmacists, and patients, as many medical professionals are currently on summer leave during the mid-August period.

For medications that have equivalent alternatives listed in the GeSY catalog, efforts are being made to allow pharmacists to perform direct replacements without requiring new prescriptions. However, cases where no alternative exists are more complex, requiring doctors to re-evaluate and change the medical treatments for affected patients.

The Health Insurance Organisation (OAY) is working to secure stocks from alternative sources and has already located a replacement for at least one affected product. OAY is expected to issue a formal announcement providing detailed instructions on how to manage each specific medication included in the recall list.
