Remedy Entertainment celebrates 25 years of Max Payne with upcoming remakes

In July 2026 the third‑person shooter Max Payne turned 25. Developed by the Finnish studio Remedy Entertainment and first released on PC in July 2001, the game sold about 4 million copies and later appeared on PlayStation 2, Xbox, iOS and Android.

Remedy has not marked the anniversary publicly, while fans have taken to social media to congratulate the franchise. The studio announced a Max Payne 1&2 collection that will remake the first two titles, with a release slated for later this year.

The series’ protagonist was modeled after Remedy writer Sam Lake, and two of the game’s villains were voiced by Lake’s parents, a detail highlighted in recent retrospectives. The announcement comes as Remedy also prepares the sequel to its newer title Control.
