Remedy Entertainment re-registers Alan Wake’s Return trademark

Remedy Entertainment has filed a new trademark for ‘Alan Wake’s Return’, sparking speculation regarding the future of the franchise. While the studio previously registered this name in 2016 to protect video content within Quantum Break, the recent filing is distinct from a simple renewal.

Unlike the previous registration, which expired in September 2026, the new application modifies the covered product categories. The studio has replaced class 028 (toys) with classes 016 (printed materials) and 025 (clothing), while expanding the scope of class 09 for digital products and multimedia content.

These changes suggest a potential expansion of the IP into new media. Following a 2024 agreement with Annapurna to develop films and television series based on Remedy’s intellectual properties, the inclusion of printed materials and apparel may point toward transmedia projects or new merchandise, though a new game remains a possibility.
