Remetinec Prison inmate assaults 70-year-old cellmate over hygiene dispute
An 18-year-old inmate at the Remetinec Prison in Zagreb assaulted a 70-year-old cellmate following a dispute over personal hygiene. The incident occurred in cell 119 of the VII department after lunch.
The younger inmate reportedly attacked the elderly man while he was lying on his bed, causing a nosebleed. A judicial police officer intervened after hearing the victim's cries for help. The 70-year-old man declined medical assistance and was not seriously injured.
The assailant claimed the fight began because the older man ‘did not want to shower’. A third inmate present in the cell confirmed a dispute regarding hygiene took place but did not witness the physical assault. As a result of the incident, the 18-year-old has been sanctioned with a 30-day suspension of visits and correspondence.
