REMI: Venezuelan media outlets launch independent network
Thirteen Venezuelan media outlets and organizations have announced the launch of the Red Venezolana de Medios Independientes (REMI). This collaborative network aims to defend freedom of expression, combat disinformation, and strengthen the independent media ecosystem in Venezuela.
The network includes a diverse group of participants, such as national, regional, and specialized media, digital-native outlets, and organizations focused on fact-checking. Initial members include El Pitazo, Efecto Cocuyo, El Impulso, El Tiempo, Diario La Nación, IPYS Venezuela, TalCual, and Cazadores de Fake News, among others.
During the official presentation via YouTube, El Pitazo director César Batiz stated that REMI serves as a bridge between organizations sharing the goal of democratic reconstruction. Marianela Balbi, executive director of IPYS Venezuela, emphasized the need to dismantle long-standing censorship models, including the judicialization of journalists and the blocking of news domains.
