Remscheid arms trial: Main defendant confesses to purchasing war weapons
The main defendant in a major German arms trafficking trial has confessed to purchasing war weapons. The case involves one of the largest discoveries of war weapons in Germany in recent decades, involving more than 300 firearms and nearly 100,000 rounds of ammunition found in hidden chambers beneath an auto repair shop in Remscheid.
The 60-year-old defendant admitted to purchasing 70 Skorpion submachine guns in Poland for approximately 700 euros each. Following a legal agreement, he faces a potential prison sentence of between six and seven years.
Previously, two co-defendants were sentenced to two and a half and three and a half years in prison after admitting to purchasing submachine guns from the defendant for roughly 2,000 euros per unit. Closing arguments and the final verdict are scheduled for October 30.
