Remscheid weapons dealer appeals conviction in major arms cache case

Defense lawyers for a 60-year-old weapons dealer from Remscheid have filed an appeal with the Federal Court of Justice against a verdict from the Wuppertal Regional Court. The defendant, a master mechanic, was previously sentenced to six and a half years in prison for weapons trafficking.

The appeal specifically targets the court-ordered seizure of 74,000 euros, which authorities claim was earned through the sale of live military weapons. Defense attorneys argue that this financial penalty would lead to the economic ruin of the defendant's family.

The case stems from a massive police raid conducted a year ago beneath the defendant's auto workshop, where four weapon chambers were discovered. Authorities seized approximately 300 firearms, including 125 machine guns, 67 machine pistols, 51 pistols, 32 long guns, precision rifles, and 11 revolvers. The cache also contained 13 anti-tank weapons, 38 hand grenades, nearly 100,000 rounds of ammunition, and Nazi-era uniforms.
