REN launches Guess Watt game to teach energy grid planning

REN – Redes Energéticas Nacionais has launched Guess Watt, a new mobile game designed to introduce young people to the complexities of electrical grid planning and construction. Recommended for ages 12 and up, the game tasks players with connecting communities to various energy sources strategically and sustainably while managing a set budget.

Players must make decisions regarding land selection, network repairs, and responding to energy production fluctuations. The gameplay also includes managing unexpected events such as storms or accidents. According to Margarida Ferreirinha, Director of Sustainability and Communication at REN, the project aims to demonstrate how sustainability must be integrated into all strategic decisions and to highlight challenges like stakeholder relations and environmental issues.

The game was developed through a collaboration within the WYgroup, with technical development handled by WYnova and Bliss Applications, and creative strategy by WYcreative. It is currently available on the App Store and Google Play.
