Rena Dourou calls for EU reform and improved social welfare

Rena Dourou, President of the SYRIZA-PS Parliamentary Group, has addressed several domestic and international political issues. During a joint session of parliamentary committees regarding the Irish Presidency of the EU Council, Dourou called for a 'democratic re-foundation of Europe.' She advocated for a green, peaceful, and inclusive European Union, while criticizing current EU trends such as increased military spending and pressure on cohesion policies.

On the domestic front, Dourou met with the Association of Social Workers in Greece (SKLE) to discuss the challenges facing social care services. The discussion focused on the need for permanent, specialized staff to support vulnerable groups, including the elderly and children. Dourou criticized the government's handling of social welfare, citing understaffing and underfunding as critical issues affecting the dignity and equality of citizens.
