Rena Dourou honors 74 years of Avgi newspaper

Rena Dourou, the parliamentary group leader for SYRIZA, issued a statement regarding the 74-year history of the newspaper Avgi. She described the publication as the “history and soul of the progressive movement.”

Dourou noted that while the newspaper has faced numerous difficulties, it continues to operate through its website. She reflected on the publication's origins in 1952, framing it as an editorial endeavor that stood against the political climate of the post-civil war and Cold War eras.

She further criticized the current government's neoliberal policies, citing concerns over the privatization of higher education, health, and water, as well as the impact on the rule of law and press freedom.
