Renal patients protest hemodialysis shortages and water quality

Patients suffering from renal failure in Mexico have launched protests to demand the full resumption of hemodialysis services. In Chimalhuacán, patients blocked Avenida del Peñón for several hours, marking the third such protest in less than two weeks due to intermittent treatment schedules.

Patients at Clinic 110 reported severe concerns regarding the quality of water used for treatments. Some patients alleged that the water used for hemodialysis was not fully purified, potentially causing infections or other health complications. One patient reported the death of a 22-year-old peer amidst these service disruptions.

While IMSS-Bienestar has stated it is delivering clinical supplies to various hospitals in the region to strengthen service provision, patients claim that sessions are still being reduced or suspended. Representatives from the National Human Rights Commission (CNDH) accompanied the demonstrators, though health authorities were reportedly unavailable to meet with them during the recent protests.
