Renaldo Leaner impresses in Kaizer Chiefs debut

Renaldo Leaner has made a strong impression in his debut for Kaizer Chiefs following an injury to captain and first-choice goalkeeper Brandon Petersen. Leaner, who joined the club from Sekhukhune United, was called into action for a 0-0 Betway Premiership draw against Golden Arrows at Mbombela Stadium.

During the match, Leaner recorded two critical close-range saves and demonstrated authority within the penalty area to maintain a clean sheet. His performance comes at a pivotal time for the club, as Petersen had recently faced criticism for conceding goals prior to his injury.

While head coach Fernando Da Cruz previously maintained that Petersen was his preferred option, Leaner’s composed display may present a selection challenge once the captain is fit to return. Leaner expressed his excitement about playing for one of South Africa’s largest teams and stated his intention to work harder to secure his future at the club.
