Renamo faces leadership crisis amid accusations of stalling tactics

Internal tensions are escalating within Mozambique’s Renamo party as the self-proclaimed National Management Commission accuses current leader Ossufo Momade of using dilatory tactics to maintain power.

During a press conference in Maputo, spokesperson João Machava criticized the repeated postponements of the National Council meeting, noting that a session originally scheduled for March was delayed until October. Machava warned that these delays hinder efforts to resolve internal crises and expressed concern that the party will emerge from the council more divided than before.

The Commission has scheduled its own coordination meeting for September 12 and 13 to evaluate recent activities and determine future steps. To resolve the ongoing impasse, the group continues to advocate for an extraordinary congress and maintains that Ossufo Momade must step down from the presidency.
