Renamo leader Ossufo Momade addresses internal tensions and disinformation
Ossufo Momade, president of the Mozambican opposition party Renamo, has addressed internal party tensions and the growing risks of digital disinformation during the third National Council meeting in Maputo.
Addressing approximately 200 senior members and leaders, Momade acknowledged existing internal disagreements regarding the party's direction. He characterized these differences as a sign of democratic maturity rather than weakness, though he warned against divergence turning into "rupture" or "internal war." He called for unity based on dialogue, respect for party statutes, and prioritizing collective interests over personal ambition.
Momade also highlighted the dangers posed by social media and artificial intelligence, noting that the manipulation of images, voices, and the spread of false information can undermine democratic institutions and public trust. He urged party members to practice responsible digital engagement, defend the truth, and protect personal data and electoral integrity against technological manipulation.
